In terms of land area, Grindelwald figures amongst the fifty-five largest communities in Switzerland. With an area of 171 km² the Eiger village is the second largest community in the Canton of Berne. The area extends from 720 m up to 4'109 m. The village itself lies at an altitude of 1'050 m. The total population is slightly above 4'000 people.
Schools
There are six schools in the community of Grindelwald (Wärgistal / Itramen / Bussalp / Endweg / Graben / Mühlebach). At present 300 children attend primary school and 89 secondary school (Graben). In addition there are 3 Kindergartens attended by approx 60 children.
